LGBTQIA+ Therapy

I work with clients across the gender and sexuality spectrum to support you in living more fully and authentically. The LGBTQIA+ community is as diverse and complex as the individuals within it, and wherever you fall on the spectrum of gender or sexuality, you deserve a space where you are fully seen, accepted, and celebrated.

Together, we may explore issues such as:

  • Relationships, including queer partnerships and ethically non-monogamous or polyamorous structures

  • Gender exploration, gender identity, and social or medical transition

  • Identity and expression

  • Sexuality, attraction, and questioning

  • Internalized homophobia, transphobia, and shame

  • Coming out — to yourself, to family, to a partner, or to your workplace

  • Religious trauma and ruptures with family of origin

  • Identity-based trauma and the cumulative weight of minority stress

  • Oppression, discrimination, and belonging

  • Body image, dysphoria, and reclaiming your relationship with your body

  • Building community and chosen family

You may be exploring your identity, processing relational ruptures, or seeking a therapist who understands your experience without assumptions. Whether you are reflecting on questions of gender or sexuality, working through identity-based trauma, or simply wanting to talk about other aspects of life with someone affirming, you are welcome here. You do not need to have your identity sorted out to begin therapy; for many of my clients, the exploration itself is part of the work.

Working with queer teens and adults

A great deal of what we explore together often lives in the space between who you are and who you've been allowed to be. That space can show up in quiet, persistent ways — perfectionism, people-pleasing, difficulty knowing what you actually want, a low-grade exhaustion that's hard to name — and in louder ways: depression, anxiety, relational patterns that no longer serve you, a sense of performing your life rather than living it. Together, we work to understand where these patterns came from, how they once protected you, and what becomes possible as you no longer need them in the same ways.

Working with trans and non-binary clients

I support trans and non-binary clients across the full range of gender exploration — whether you are early in questioning, considering social or medical transition, mid-transition, or living comfortably in your gender and navigating the rest of your life. Gender-affirming work in therapy does not always have to be about gender. Many of my trans and non-binary clients come to therapy to talk about their relationships, their careers, their families of origin, and to do that work with someone who already understands the context they live in.

Working with queer couples and non-monogamous relationships

Couples therapy that assumes a heteronormative, monogamous default leaves many partnerships out. I welcome lesbian, gay, queer, trans, and non-binary couples, as well as polyamorous and ethically non-monogamous partnerships, and bring the same depth and care to this work as I do to any couples work. You can read more on my Couples Therapy page.

My approach

I offer a safe, inclusive space for people of all orientations and gender expressions to show up as their authentic selves. You are the expert of your own experience, and I approach your story with curiosity, respect, and openness. Whatever challenges you bring, you will be met with understanding and support as we work toward greater self-acceptance and connection.

My therapeutic work is rooted in social justice, and I uphold all forms of anti-oppression — including LGBTQIA+ rights, anti-racism, feminism, Health at Every Size, and sex positivity. These values shape the room you walk into. I bring the same depth, honesty, and gentle challenge to this work that I bring to all of my clients; affirming care does not mean uncritical care.

I draw on psychodynamic theory, relational and interpersonal approaches, and trauma-informed care. I see clients in person at my office in Uptown Denver, and via secure video throughout Colorado and Massachusetts.

Getting started

I offer a free 20-minute consultation to all potential clients so we can determine if we are a good fit and if I can offer the support you are looking for. Individual sessions are $200 / 50 minutes. I am a private-pay practice and am not in-network with insurance, though many clients use out-of-network benefits for partial reimbursement.
